Additional Cleveland Cavaliers Info

The Cleveland Cavaliers, aka “the Cavs,” began play as an expansion team in 1970. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, Cleveland Cavaliers Ticket Holders have attended home games at Quicken Loans Arena. Cavs fans can get tickets to the on-court action at Golden Tickets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers finished their inaugural season with the worst record in the league. However, the team’s poor season did net them the first overall selection in the 1971 NBA draft, which they used to select guard Austin Carr, the Cavaliers’ first star player.

With Carr on board, Cleveland slowly improved and won its first division championship in 1976, which was followed by 2 consecutive winning seasons and more playoff appearances. After a brief slump due to mismanagement in the early 1980s, the Cavs starting making post-season appearances again in the late 1980s. Unfortunately, they found themselves up against the nearly unstoppable Chicago Bulls at the time and never earned a conference title during that era.

Cleveland Cavaliers Ticket Holders would see the team’s fortunes change when juggernaut LeBron James joined the team in 2003. James led the way to the team’s first appearance in the NBA Finals in 2007 after winning the first Eastern Conference championship in franchise history. After failing to return to the NBA Finals in the ensuing 3 seasons, James joined the Miami Heat in 2010 in a controversial move that left Cleveland Cavalier fans feeling betrayed. However, Cavs fans rejoiced when LeBron James returned to the team in 2014 and guided the team to 4 straight NBA Finals appearances. In 2016, the Cavaliers won their first NBA Championship, signaling the end of the so-called Cleveland sports curse.
